CD Projekt RED: Cyberpunk 2077 announced at the right time; won’t be at E3 2015

CD Projekt RED managing director Adam Badowski admitted that they didn’t announce Cyberpunk 2077 too early; they just needed more “help” finishing The Witcher 3.
2026827-672376_20130205_001“We wanted to present a certain vision of ourselves. Such a thing is very important for a company like ours – a company that is both the developer and the publisher,” said Badowski in an interview with Game Pressure.
“The moment we announced Cyberpunk, we were certainly working on it. Later on, it turned out that we needed help in completing Witcher 3 – lately we have focused a larger part of the team on finishing the game, and after the release we will get back to Cyberpunk. After all, we didn’t announce a release date of the latter, so no one can complain.”
Then, Badowski, when asked about Cyberpunk being shown at E3 2015, replied: “This year belongs to The Witcher.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is based on the discontinued series of tabletop role-playing games, written by Mike Pondsmith.  Cyberpunk will be placed in a dystopian futuristic world in which ultra-modern technology co-exists with a degenerated human society.

Share. From fantasy to sci-fi.
BY JUSTIN DAVISToday at E3 2015 IGN had the opportunity to chat with CD Projekt's Co-Founder and Joint CEO Marcin Iwinski, and Head of Marketing & PR Michal Platkow Gilewski about the company's long-gestating sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077.
Earlier this year the company famously stated that it didn't intend to show off the game until 2017 at the earliest. So why announce it, only to go dark?
"We released the Cyberpunk teaser trailer because we wanted to see how gamers felt about it," Iwinski explained. "We were super excited about the project internally, but what if it wasn't the right thing [for us]? But the response has been incredible. Now it's just up to us to deliver. We're hard at work on it."

Iwinski also had high praise for Bethesda's approach in revealing Fallout 4 to the world.
"We're impressed with Fallout 4's rollout. They came on stage and said 'It's here, it's real, and it's coming out on this date.' We're going to do something similar. We're going to wait [to reveal the game] until we can show off a very meaningful piece of it."
Iwinski remarked that Cyberpunk is a great opportunity to keep the studio's creative energy high.
"You can craft swords for 12 years, but you might get burnt out. People might want to leave and go work on something else. We're excited to switch to guns. We intended to keep [the team] energized with Cyberpunk. The core team is working The Witcher 3's expansions, but more and more people are moving over onto Cyberpunk."  IGN Logo

The previous thread seems to have been dedicate to the sale numbers of the Witcher series (25 million), but there were other much more interesting things revealed during today's conference

- Cyberpunk 2077 is in full development mode and there are over 300 people working, which represents 3/4 of the total workforce they want on this project. They already have all core staff for the projects, they're looking to hire plenty of testers etc.
- Job positions posted on their site, such as concept artists are mainly "opportunity hires" as "it's hard to get top notch artists", but they're not required for work on Cyberpunk 2077 as per previous point.
- They will be developing their second, unannounced AAA title concurrently with Cyberpunk 2077
- They will be working with the Cyberpunk license for years to come
- Cyberpunk 2077 is in advanced development stage, they still need plenty of time on it
- This year is the year of Gwent (in terms of communication)
- Gwent will be released in the second half of this year, open beta will launch on all three platforms - PC, Xbox One AND PS4 in the spring. (looks like the PS4 stress test starting tomorrow will be quickly followed by the open beta, but that's my assumption)
- CEO grinned when asked what the period between the release and announcement of the Cyberpunk 2077's release date will be and declined to answer the question
- TW3 is definitely done and dusted, no further expansions etc
- Gwent is already bringing good profits for CDPR, they're happy with its performance
- They're setting up two local representative in China and Japan, mainly to support Gwent's growth
- They're not going to reveal how many kegs etc they sell in Gwent. They want to keep that data private.
- They're currently expanding/developing the multiplayer aspect of GOG Galaxy
and finally, one investor pressed CEO by saying:
Your current valuation of 7 billion PLN is mostly thanks to the success of The Witcher series, don't you think that if you announced Witcher 4, your valuation would be 10 billion or more?
Kiciński shrugged, and said: The Witcher was designed as a trilogy. Trilogy cannot have a fourth part, however we like that world very much. We have invested 15 years of our lives and loads of money into it and we will probably think about it at some point. But please consider us as rational people, we sometimes have weird ideas, but overall our thinking is very rational. We have full rights to The Witcher games. They are ours. We have invested enormous funds into promoting it, and it's a very strong brand. Answer your own question :)
- But there are also shareholders...
- Sure, but there's also communication and that's a trouble, that we have talking to you guys. We have to be very careful with our words, because what we tell you is also heard by the gamers. Obviously plenty of you are gamers as well, but what we tell gamers is part of the marketing campaign, so we can't discuss certain things even though we know them already. We cannot reveal our full hand.

Olha a resposta deles quanto aos shareholders (tradução: engravatadinhos filhadaputa EA-like). "Nós respeitamos os GAMERS". Ponto.

GAMERS.

Pau no cu desses arrombados, fode eles CDPR

Vamos ver.

A CDPR merece.

  • Game will seemingly be at E3, with what they’re showing at E3 being announced just before. Said they didn’t want to confirm yet.
  • The campaign is singleplayer and very expansive, and will be the first thing they show.
  • It sounds like the multiplayer might be added post launch, but they don’t want to talk about it yet. Everything is on the table in regards to it, including Battle Royale modes. This makes sense as they did a lot of the multiplayer staff hiring more recently, so they might need more time to finish that.
  • To be clear about the above, an investor asked if the multiplayer would be a Battle Royale mode, and they said anything and everything was on the table, so you shouldn’t necessarily assume it’s a Battle Royale mode. They’re probably still deciding what all the components are, but judging by their job postings, half the multiplayer design team was just hired (which seems to be led by Krakow, who did the DLC for The Witcher 3).
  • The game has a character creator and you still can pick your class, despite rumors.
  • The studio can’t officially comment on next-gen as its not announced, but assured investors their game will scale to it.
  • No microtransactions for the singleplayer mode.
  • No current plans for a Switch version.
