Best Buy’s PS5 and Xbox restocks currently have queues around the block

STORES ACROSS THE US WILL START SELLING THE CONSOLES AT 7.30AM LOCAL TIME

best-buy-1280x720.jpg

Large queues have started forming outside Best Buy stores across America as the retailer prepares to sell PS5 and Xbox Series X stock on Thursday.

Best Buy confirmed that it will be selling PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles in select stores today from 7.30am local time.

With a number of hours still to go until opening time (at the time of writing), photos have already started appearing on Twitter showing large queues forming around numerous Best Buy stores, with many stretching around the block.

Spieltimes posted a series of photos showing queues outside numerous Best Buy stores around New York.

Other users have started replying with their own photos, showing queues outside stores located in the likes of College Station, TX, Frisco, TX, Charleston, SC, Beavercreek, OH and Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, Twitter user Rinpiass posted a video showing that around 100 people were already queuing at the Best Buy in Columbia, Maryland.

Because the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launches occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Best Buy restock represents one of the first chances many will have to get a new-gen console without having to battle with scalpers online.

On September 23, select Best Buy stores will have limited quantities of Sony’s and Microsoft’s consoles available.

To stand a chance of buying one, customers need to queue at participating stores, where Best Buy employees will begin distributing tickets at 7.30am local time that morning.

Customers will be asked whether they want to purchase a PS5, PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series X, and those who receive a ticket will be guaranteed the opportunity to buy their chosen console once the store opens.

Today’s console sale event was leaked earlier this week. According to internal inventory screens shared with TechRadar, some Best Buy stores are expected to have over 50 of each console available, with many more likely to be on sale at outlets in major metropolitan areas.

New Gran Turismo 7 4K Screenshots of Pre-Order Bonus Cars

Gran Turismo 7 pre-orders officially opened on Tuesday, and if you reserve your copy early, you’ll be rewarded with 100,000 in-game credits and a “3 Car Pack” of bonus content including the Toyota Supra GT500 ’97 (Castrol Tom’s), Porsche 917 Living Legend, and Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept Stealth Model.

The official announcement included screenshots of the cars, but our friends at Sony have sent over an additional content pack with high-resolution 4K screenshots — captured on PS5 — that are definitely worth a closer look.

The Voice Behind Deathloop’s Colt, Jason Kelley Finally Got A PS5, Courtesy Of Microsoft

Deathloop-Actor-Finally-Has-PS5-To-Play-

Deathloop has been hailed as one of the best games of the year, as Arkane Lyon’s instant critical classic continues to enthrall players trying to break the loop on PS5 or PC, since those are the only two places you can play it – but the voice actor behind one of the game’s main characters, Colt, can’t even play the game he’s in because he doesn’t own a PS5 as he admitted on Twitter, so of course, Microsoft made sure to correct that by getting him a PS5.

The news comes from a recent interview Jason Kelley did with Aaron Bayne from website JumpCutPLAY, when discussing the games success Kelley reveals that Bethesda’s own Pete Hines came to save the day, but he also had kind offers from people outside Microsoft offering to send him a PS5. Microsoft will also of course be sourcing a copy of the game for Kelley to play as well.

You can check out the interview with Jason Kelley and the story of how he got his PS5 for yourself, here:

In this topsy turvy world of PlayStation Studios games releasing on Xbox and Xbox Game Studios games releasing exclusively on PS5 this is the latest in events that once again prove you should just play games wherever you want to play them, and there can be real bi-partisanship between the blue and green console platforms.

But what really matters is that Kelley will finally be able to play the game he stars in, and see why we all love it the way we do – a happy ending for all involved.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Will Be Darker, 'Our Empire Strikes Back'

Wolverine release date to be revealed eventually

marvels-spiderman-2.original.jpg

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been likened to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in a new interview that reveals the sequel will be darker than the original PlayStation 4 title. Speaking on the This Week in Marvel podcast, creative vice president Bill Rosemann touched on how the web-slinging sequel compares to the first title. "If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire. It gets a little darker."

All we have to go on right now is the reveal trailer debuted during the PlayStation Showcase earlier this month, but with Venom already confirmed to be appearing, it seems Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has a pretty good chance of living up to that claim. Rosemann then turns his attention to Marvel's Wolverine, which is said to be releasing after Marvel's Spider-Man 2. "We will eventually reveal when Wolverine is aimed to launch. For more, go back and study those trailers — they are packed with details and easter eggs."

Other confirmed information for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 includes Candyman actor Tony Todd voicing Venom and that the announcement trailer was running in real time on PS5.

Sources: Destruction All-Stars studio Lucid handed Twisted Metal revival

A NEW GAME IS IN EARLY DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNED TO COINCIDE WITH A TV SERIES, SOURCES CLAIM

Twisted-Metal-ps3-768x555.jpg

PlayStation has handed its Twisted Metal series revival to Destruction All-Stars developer Lucid games, sources have told VGC.

According to the sources, the new car combat instalment – which by release, will be the series’ first in over a decade – has started early development at the Liverpool, UK-based studio.

One person with knowledge of Lucid’s plans suggested that the revival would be built around a free-to-play model, partly in response to Destruction All-Stars’ last-minute transition from a premium game to a PlayStation Plus title.

The release is planned to coincide with an upcoming TV series in 2023, we were told.

Sony Interactive Entertainment went on record this year that it intends to increase its foothold in the live service games market, and a free-to-play entry in one of its classic multiplayer franchises would match with these ambitions.

Destruction All-Stars released earlier this year to highly critical reviews. It was originally planned as a full-price PS5 launch game, until Sony delayed its release by three months and announced it was going to be free to PlayStation Plus members for two months, before being sold for $20.

Despite its PS Plus launch, Destruction All-Stars struggled to find an audience and its developer even added AI-controlled drivers to the game to help players find matches when there weren’t enough opponents online.

However, despite the poor reception to All-Stars, Lucid has a long pedigree in the racing genre and is trusted to do a good job with Twisted Metal, we were told.

The British studio was formed by veterans of the now-closed developer Bizarre Creations, which created the hit Project Gotham Racing games. More recently, Lucid worked on Need for Speed entries Payback and Hot Pursuit Remastered for EA, and another car combat game in Switchblade.

The studio’s reported involvement in Twisted Metal comes weeks after the series’ original director responded to rumours of a revival and said he believed that Lucid was an unlikely fit due to the poor reception of Destruction All-Stars.

“I think Sony got a bloody nose financially from [Destruction All-Stars], so I don’t think they’re sat around saying, ‘let’s try another car combat title… and let’s try one that historically has only done well in one territory’. I don’t see that,” he said.

twisted-metal-ps3-1024x576.jpg

The Twisted Metal television project was officially announced in May 2019 and is in the works at Sony’s PlayStation Productions movie and TV studio.

According to Variety, the live-action adaptation of PlayStation’s vehicular combat series will be an action comedy penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the Deadpool films and Zombieland.

Avengers star Anthony Mackie will play the lead role in the series. It will focus on an outsider tasked with delivering a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland roamed by bandits in deadly vehicles, including the series’ trademark character, Sweet Tooth, a psychotic clown who drives a modified ice cream truck.

Welcoming Bluepoint Games to the PlayStation Studios family

Developers of critically acclaimed remakes joins the PlayStation Studios family.

Today I’m very excited to announce that PlayStation Studios has grown again with the addition of long-time partner Bluepoint Games! From the exceptional PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls to the critically acclaimed PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and remasters of fan favorites like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Bluepoint has built a name for itself by creating some of the highest-quality remasters and remakes in the industry.

With each of its projects, Bluepoint has raised the bar on console-defining visuals and gameplay, and the studio’s vast expertise in world building and character creation will be a huge plus for future PlayStation Studios properties.

Welcome to the PlayStation Studios family, Bluepoint!

“We’re thrilled to have officially joined PlayStation Studios!

Austin, Texas has been home base for Bluepoint from when we first founded the studio back in 2006 and we’re now a team of close to 70 super-talented creatives and growing. While the studio has certainly grown over the past 15 years, our cultural beliefs have remained the same- to always push the envelope and create the highest-quality games possible all while having fun doing it.  The focus on culture has been instrumental to our success and we’re excited that PlayStation Studios shares a similar culture and vision.

PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players. Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.

Thanks to everyone who’s supported us throughout the years – we can’t wait to bring you more amazing games in this next chapter for Bluepoint Games!”

– Marco Thrush, President, Bluepoint Games

PlayStation Officially Acquires Bluepoint Games, Next Game Planned to Be an Original, Not a Remake

The Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remake devs are venturing into original territory as PlayStation acquires them.

thumb

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced yet another studio acquisition - Bluepoint Games, the developers of the Shadow of the Colossus remake on PS4, and, most recently, the PS5 remake of Demon's Souls.

Bluepoint and PlayStation have worked closely together for years, but the news comes after the studio's latest successful release, as Sony confirmed Demon's Souls has sold more than 1.4 million copies since release. IGN spoke with PlayStation Studios Head Hermen Hulst and Bluepoint President Marco Thrush to learn more about the acquisition, PlayStation's overall studio strategy, and about how, thoughBluepoint is steeped in PlayStation remaster and remake expertise, it wants to explore original ideas.

Bluepoint Wants to Make Original Games

Demon's Souls was only released last November, and while Bluepoint isn't officially announcing its next game, Thrush explained that the studio is aiming to work on original content going forward. No exact details about what the "original content" Bluepoint is working on will be, so it remains unclear if it is a new game that is part of an existing IP, or something new entirely.

"Our next project, we're working on original content right now. We can't talk about what that is, but that's the next step in the evolution for us," Thrush said, noting that, even with remakes like Shadow and Souls, the studio was already partially creating original content. He explained how, really, the growth of the studio, both in the literal number of employees as well as types of projects, naturally leads to this next step, especially given the team's pedigree.

"The transition from remasters to remakes was to test ourselves and push ourselves harder for the next step," Thrush said, noting the team was at about 15 people during the production of the original God of War collection, right now is at about 70 employees, and grew to 95 people at its peak during Demon's Souls (with outsourcing work, too).

"Our team is a very highly experienced team, the average experience among most people is about 15 years, and all of them come from original development. It's not like we're a bunch of developers that got trained up on making remasters and remakes. We have that original game development mindset in our hearts, and that's what we're now ready, finally ready with the support of Sony to push forward and show what we can do, and show what PlayStation can do," he said.

And though the potential is exciting for Bluepoint to be tackling its own game, don't expect to see it too quickly. The studio has had a surprisingly quick turnaround on its games, having worked on five PlayStation remasters or remaster collections and several ports over the last decade, while moving from remasters in 2015 to Shadow in 2018, and then Demon's Souls in 2020.

Deviam.

RUMOR: KONAMI DEVELOPING CASTLEVANIA, METAL GEAR SOLID, AND SILENT HILL REVIVALS

Classic Konami IP seemingly set to return.

Konami-Rumor_10-01-21.jpg

Konami is developing revivals of its Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill franchises, according to a VGC report citing unnamed publishing sources.

The first of these revivals will reportedly be a new Castlevania game, described by sources as a “reimagining” of the series currently in development internally at Konami in Japan with support from external Japanese studios.

A Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater-centered remake project is also reportedly in development at Singapore-based studio Virtuos, while Konami also intends to release remastered versions of the original Metal Gear Solid games ahead of the remake.

Eurogamer has corroborated this report, noting that Konami has mulled over a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake for some time, with one earlier, canned idea being a remake in Fox Engine with cutscenes repurposed from the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater pachinko machine.

Finally, VGC reports multiple Silent Hill games are in development at various external development studios—one of which was outsourced to a prominent Japanese developer earlier this year.

Back in February, Silent Hill series composer teased a project announcement—“the one you’ve been waiting for”—coming this summer in an interview with Al-Hub, which was taken down at the request of an unspecified party. While Konami has denied that it asked Al-Hub to remove its interview, Eurogamer noted that the company was not happy with Yamaoka’s tease.

Gematsu has also heard that a new Silent Hill is in development at a prominent Japanese developer. That studio is Kojima Productions, according to a publishing source that wishes to remain anonymous, who also said that the game is funded by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

https://www.gematsu.com/2021/10/rumor-konami-developing-castlevania-metal-gear-solid-and-silent-hill-revivals

Bluepoint Games Working on 2 New Projects, Including “Remake of a Beloved Game” – Rumor

Insider Millie Amand has noted the other to be an original game with a "similar size to Insomniac’s Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales."

image.thumb.png.018949be301ecd3b696af42246b7ae7b.png

Bluepoint Games officially joined PlayStation Studios yesterday, several months after the announcement was leaked by PlayStation Japan on Twitter. While the studio has talked about working on original content, it may not be completely done with remakes. According to Millie Amand on Twitter, the developer is currently working on two projects.

One is an original title described as a “similar size to Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales” while the second is a “remake of a beloved game.” She added “100 percent not Metal Gear Solid,” which could refer to either project. However, in a tweet made in early September, Amand stated that Bluepoint Games was “not working on a Metal Gear Solid project in any capacity.”

Rumors were previously circulating about Bluepoint Games working on “several” Metal Gear Solid remakes which are still years away from being revealed. While Amand’s information may be out of date, she has a fairly good track record, predicting in July that the PlayStation Showcase would be taking place in September and even teasing Marvel’s Wolverine before its official reveal. What Bluepoint is working on is still a mystery so we’ll need to wait for more details in the coming months.

Leaker Claims Sly Cooper is Coming Back

A leaker claims that the coveted Sly Cooper franchise will be making a return, though with few details about the project.

sly-cooper-ps5-return.jpg?q=50&fit=conta

PlayStation’s roster of iconic characters is nearly as broad as Nintendo’s, even if they don’t carry quite the same weight. However, PlayStation has been focusing its efforts on a select few of these iconic characters since the PS4 hit shelves, leaving some stuck in the past. PaRappa the Rapper and Jak and Daxter are some of the biggest franchises, but Sly Cooper may take the cake. Luckily, it appears that Sly Cooper may be making a comeback.

The news comes by way of @Shpeshal_Nick, co-founder of XboxEra and a leaker with a solid track record. According to the leaker, their “normal” source has confirmed that Sly Cooper will be making a return, following similar reports that Shpeshal_Nick heard from a newer source for PlayStation leaks. However, the leaker didn’t reveal any other information, saying that this is simply an update on the situation, which he regularly receives DMs for.

The most recent Sly Cooper game was Thieves in Time, which was released in 2013 for the PS3. The franchise hasn’t seen a new entry since then, leaving the PS4 console generation without its own new Sly Cooper game. Of course, the developer traditionally behind the Sly Cooper games, Sucker Punch Productions, has been working on different games, namely Infamous: Second Son and the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima.

It’s unclear which studio will develop the new Sly Cooper game if the leak is accurate. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was developed by Sanzaru games, which previously helped develop The Sly Collection. It’s possible that the studio returns to work on yet another entry in the franchise, though there are a lot of possibilities as far as what could be in the works, and a lot of it depends on how Sony wants to handle the return.

It’s possible that the original Sly Cooper game gets the remake treatment, similar to what happened with Ratchet and Clank. If so, a remake could be handled by BluePoint Games. After all, Sony acquired Bluepoint Games officially recently, following the studio handling the high-profile Demon’s Souls remake, as well as several others. It would be a good fit for the studio, but the developer is also said to be working on an original game rather than a remake.

Of course, it’s important to take all of this information with a grain of salt for now. While Sly Cooper is one of the most important PlayStation characters out there, it’s not safe to bet on anything until the game is officially announced.

A Sly Cooper game is rumored to be in development.

The Ascent‘s official Twitter account jumped into a conversation between two users in which it was tagged. One of the users expressed their desire to play Kena: Bridge of Spirits on the Xbox, and the other wished for The Ascent on the PS5.

“Hello! Thanks for letting us know you’d like to see The Ascent on PS5!” Neon Giant’s social media team responded. “While we don’t have anything to announce right now, we want you to know we hear you and the team are aware of the demand for a PS5 version. Keep an eye right here on our Twitter for updates!”

The Ascent is an Xbox console exclusive published by Curve Digital. It’s an action shooter role-playing game set in a science-fiction cyberpunk world. The Ascent offers both solo and co-op play.

An official overview reads:

"The Ascent will see players dive into ‘The Ascent Group’ arcology, a self-contained corporate-run metropolis, stretching high into the sky and filled with creatures from all over the galaxy. Taking on the role of an indentured worker, the world starts to go haywire when The Ascent Group shuts down for unknown reasons. Life becomes a case of survival, with rival corporations and crime syndicates looking to fill the empty space. Players will have to take up arms and hold them off. The Ascent begins here."
