2.0 chega a 4K60

Pulse 3D Wireless Headset in Midnight Black launches next month

Standalone_Global-Assets-Range1-Blog-post-16x9-4K_W2015-scaled.jpg?resize=1088,612&crop_strategy=smart&zoom=1.5

A look at new updates for Pulse 3D wireless headsets.

Building upon the new galaxy-themed colors we introduced for DualSense wireless controllers in June, I am pleased to share that the Pulse 3D headset is also getting a new color – Midnight Black.

This new look for the Pulse 3D headset will match the same color scheme as the DualSense Midnight Black wireless controller – with two subtly different shades of black. The Pulse 3D headset in Midnight Black will begin rolling out globally at participating retailers next month. Click here for the details.

Range_Global-Assets-Range1-Blog-post-16x

While all PS5-compatible headsets can be used to experience 3D Audio with PS5 games, the Pulse 3D headset is specifically designed to take full advantage of the console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, with a fine-tuned frequency response to help players more precisely place sounds in exact locations to match on-screen gameplay.

In our second major system update for PS5, we’re introducing a new equalizer control feature for Pulse 3D headset within PS5’s sound settings as part of our continued efforts to enhance the audio gaming experience.

05_EQ_Shooter-scaled.jpg?fit=1024,576&zo

Pulse 3D headset users can select from three presets — Standard, Bass Boost, or Shooter which is designed to place extra emphasis on the sounds of footsteps and fired shots. These three presets were popular among players who used the PS4 headset companion app, and have now been optimized to compliment PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech. Users can also create their own presets and save up to three settings to have more quick-access options. Additionally, players can adjust these equalizer settings during gameplay through Control Center, without needing to exit the game.

We hope you enjoy this new equalizer control feature for Pulse 3D headsets, along with the new look in Midnight Black when it launches next month. Head to PlayStation.com to find out more.

2.0 chega a 4K60

https://www.pcmag.com/news/slaying-the-cable-monster-what-you-need-to-know-about-hdmi-cables

Bringing the lead character of Kena: Bridge of Spirits to life

Ember Lab on the design decisions and techniques that shaped the look of its hero.

Ember Lab is very excited to share our first game with the world next week. In the game, you play as Kena, a young Spirit Guide who travels to an abandoned village in search of a sacred mountain shrine, and who must help the wandering spirits trapped there.

51476944288_d50191b4a1_o.jpg

Kena’s original character designs were created by Wanchana “Vic” Intrasombat. He was a close collaborator on our commercial projects in the past, but this time he had a blank canvas and we can see so much of his charming and unique view of the world in all of the character designs.

51477624125_f8455fd3a3_h.jpg

The first sketches portrayed a very young girl. As the mechanics and story evolved, we realized she needed to be very skilled, and that her work as a Spirit Guide would require her to draw on more life experience when helping the other characters in the story. She gradually became older and more knowledgeable.

Kena was realized in 3D for the first time by Rodrigo Gonçalves. He built the prototype model and later continued to refine and explore real-time techniques for various details like her hair. We also collaborated with Carlos Ortega, who many revere for his beautifully clean 3D character work.

NeglectedDisguisedErmine-size_restricted

We iterated quite a bit over the course of the project, adding finer textures and exploring alpha card techniques that we had seen in other incredible games before us. For the hair, we eventually found a blend between solid geometry, which could give very clear shapes and catch light nicely, and alpha planes to show the detail of individual hair strands providing some more variation and imperfection. Similar attention would be given to the clothing, adding different fabric patterns and even some worn edges.

51476944418_bf04853ed7_h.jpg

We love details like this, and it is something we try to do in all aspects of the game. The wear on her clothing communicates some experience and adventure. The beautiful staff she carries and various ornate decorations on her clothing aren’t loud, but reflect a reverence for tradition and a devotion to a greater purpose.

She is fully brought to life in animation, where much of her personality is conveyed through the way she moves and acts. The scope of the game and story was much larger than our past projects. This presented an exciting challenge in creating expressions with more emotional range and depth, and that had the right warmth and compassion for our hero. With many animations across the game, we created a library of expressions and other details like hand and hair poses. This provided a fast way to refine and unify animations and ensure that Kena always felt inhabited by the same soul from beginning to end.

Giving life to all the wonderful pieces of her character design was important to us, and we put a lot of care into the movement of her clothing and hair. The wind in her hair became an element throughout the game, simply as another layer to invoke the feeling of being in a village inhabited by spirits, or on a mountain peak. While we used physics on other characters in the game, every aspect of our main character was animated by hand.

We hope you enjoyed a closer look at this process. We’ve had the pleasure of working with many talented artists and developers on this project, and we’re excited to see what you think of the game!

Vai vendo...

:lolmor:

Sony Releases Aftermarket PS5 SSD Under the Nextorage Brand

It seems SSD upgrades will be all the rage for consoles

gYrgZkJnHtG7qoTVrFwjWB-1280-80.jpg

Sony has developed a surprisingly powerful aftermarket SSD for the PS5, but it comes through its Nextorage subsidiary. The SSD comes hot on the heels of the official support for third-party SSD upgrades on the PS5, released only two days ago. Multiple companies have already released SSD drop-in upgrade products either adapted or specifically designed for the current-gen crop of consoles, but the Nextorage PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD promises stand-out performance.

The "NEM-PA" series of SSDs will be available in both 1TB and 2TB capacities, and performance ratings are top-notch. Nextorage rates the 2TB SSD at up to 7,300/6,900 MB/s of sequential read/write throughput, while random read and write performance reaches 1 million IOPS. Longevity-wise, the NEM-PA 2TB is rated for 1,400 TBW, and there's a total of 2GB of DDR4 RAM for caching purposes.

PS5-Compatible Sony SSD          Sequential Read/Write              Random Read/Write                  Endurance

2TB Nextorage NEM-PA               7,300 / 6,900 MB/s                   1,000,000 / 1,000,000 IOPS      1,400 TBW

1TB Nextorage NEM-PA               7,300 / 6,000 MB/s                   750,000 / 1,000,000 IOPS         700 TBW

The 1TB version offers slightly more muted performance, as is usual in SSD designs: We're looking at 7,300/6,000 MB/s of sequential read/write throughput, while random read speed is rated at 750,000 IOPS. Random write performance sustains the same 1 million IOPS as the 2TB version. Longevity-wise, the NEM-PA 1TB is rated for 700 TBW.

Both capacities ship with an aluminum heatsink that's sure to pass Sony's requirements for drop-in upgrades to the PS5's integrated SSD. It's slightly odd that Sony elected to use the Nextorage brand for this product instead of marketing it under its own brand, which features a much more impactful and recognizable name than Nextorage.

Unfortunately, we don't yet have pricing or availability information for the new Nextorage SSDs, but we'll update as it becomes available. Meanwhile, if you're looking into a storage upgrade for your PS5, make sure to take a look at our PS5 SSDs list to help with your hunt for extra performance and capacity.

https://www.tomshardware.com/amp/news/sony-releases-aftermarket-ps5-ssd-under-the-nextorage-brand

Sony’s movie boss says he expects more games company buyouts

PICTURES CEO BELIEVES MOVIES CONSOLIDATION HAS PEAKED AND GAMES WILL BE THE “NEW GROWTH AREA”

DsEuc54WsAABizL-e1578671452770-1024x594.jpg

The boss of Sony’s movie business has said he believes that the video games business will be the next focus for company mergers and acquisitions.

Speaking during the Bank Of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference this month (transcribed by VGC), Sony Pictures Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra was asked if the movie industry would see any further consolidation.

He replied: “I think the traditional medium of television and film has probably peaked and the new growth area will be the games business, and who’s better positioned than Sony for that business?

“I do think you’ll see some consolidation on that side. You’ll probably see a little more on our side as well. I do think there are probably too many film studios and you might see one or two less over the next five-to-ten years.

“But I think the next area of consolidation will be the games business.”

The games industry’s pandemic boost has already seen a significant rise in mergers and acquisitions.

According to recent research by InvestGame, the value of M&As in the games industry exceeded $22 billion in 2020, including the sales of ZeniMax to Microsoft and Codemasters to EA, which is the highest amount since 2016. It said the key acquirers in 2020 were Tencent, Embracer Group, Stillfront and Zynga.

The report notes that because video games have outperformed many industries hurt by the pandemic, public and private investors have started to target the industry as a perceived safe bet.

In its April end-of-year results call, Sony itself said it would “aggressively” invest in its first-party game studios during its current fiscal year (ending March 2022), in addition to partnering with external game developers on exclusive games.

Sony has so far announced partnerships with the new studio from former Stadia games boss Jade Raymond, investment in a multiplayer game from Bungie veterans, and the acquisitions of PC port house Nixxes and UK-based studio Firesprite.

The PlayStation firm also invested an additional $200 million in Epic Games this year, which buillt on the minority stake it took in the company in July 2020, when Sony made a strategic investment of $250 million in the Fortnite and Unreal Engine firm.

“We intend to increase development personnel and other in-house costs by approximately 20bn yen [$184m] year-on-year, as we further strengthen our in-house software,” Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said in the April conference call.

“To enhance our software offering, we intend to continue investing in partnering with external studios, in addition to aggressively investing in our in-house studios.”

He added: “As I just mentioned, we aim to strengthen the PlayStation platform through actions such as the recently announced partnership with Haven Entertainment, which was established by Jade Raymond, creator of the famous game Assassin’s Creed.

“In our additional investment of Epic Games, along with the rest of the Sony group we will also work to enhance the social and platform capabilities of games.”

Sony has been working more closely with its movie business in recent years, following the opening of PlayStation Productions, a movie studio tasked with adapting its game franchises to television and movies.

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sonys-movie-boss-says-he-expects-more-games-company-buyouts/
