CIA releases 321 gigabytes of Bin Laden’s digital library, Web cache crap

Today, the Central Intelligence Agency posted a cache of files obtained from Osama Bin Laden's personal computer and other devices recovered from his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan by Navy SEALs during the raid in which he was killed on May 2, 2011. The 470,000 files, 321 gigabytes in all, include documents, images, videos, and audio recordings, including Al Qaeda propaganda and planning documents, home videos of Bin Laden's son Hazma, and "drafts" of propaganda videos. There is also a lot of digital junk among the files.

 

The CIA site presents a raft of warnings about the content of the downloads:

The material in this file collection may contain content that is offensive and/or emotionally disturbing. This material may not be suitable for all ages. Please view it with discretion. Prior to accessing this file collection, please understand that this material was seized from a terrorist organization. While the files underwent interagency review, there is no absolute guarantee that all malware has been removed.

 

Some of the files contain personal correspondence between Bin Laden and members of his family and other Al Qaeda leaders, and some are related to Al Qaeda's terrorist operation. But there's a great deal of the flotsam and jetsam of cached webpages and other Internet content that Bin Laden had to view offline, such as Web advertisements (including one for a Chrysler-Dodge dealership in Calgary) and page design elements. Others include scans of newspapers, magazines, and textbooks, as well as images that were apparently downloaded from Wikipedia—such as a map of "The fragmentation of Latin Greece, c. 1350," showing the areas of influence of Italian and Catalan crusaders.

 

The file collection excludes some of the content recovered, including "materials that are sensitive such that their release would directly damage efforts to keep the nation secure; materials protected by copyright; pornography; malware; and blank, corrupted and duplicate files," a CIA spokesperson said in a prepared statement.

For example, some of the copyrighted material being withheld from public release are the following:

• In the Footsteps of bin Laden – CNN
• National Geographic: Kung Fu Killers
• National Geographic: Inside the Green Berets
• National Geographic: Predators at War
• National Geographic: World’s Worst Venom
• Peru Civilization
• Resident Evil
• Storm Rider – Clash of the Evils
• The Kremlin from Inside (a documentary recorded from Al Jazeera)
• The Story of India
• The Three Musketeers
• Where in the World is Osama bin Laden

There are at least two works found in the videos in the collection that the CIA missed: Episode 20 of the animated series Jackie Chan Adventures downloaded from MyEgy, an Arabic video streaming site, and a pirated Tom and Jerry cartoon.

 

The videos in the digital archive are in a hodgepodge of formats: RealMedia, Windows Media Format, .MOV and various MPEG formats, as well as Flash video archives of YouTube videos. One viewed by Ars is a video from Al Qaeda in Iraq of a roadside bomb being exploded under a US Army Bradley Armored Fighting Vehicle; others are videos of sermons by various Islamic clerics.

 

There's also a 100-megabyte PDF file of scans of Bin Laden's personal journal. However, no translation of the journal, written in Arabic, is currently provided by the CIA.

Eu fiquei interessado nesse e também no Wreckfest, que já tem pra PC (pessoal que trabalhou no Flatout) e logo mais chega pra consoles.

 

Burnout pra mim são os de PS2. Infelizmente como a EAsco matou a série o que resta é isso esperar por sucessor espiritual.

um cara tá fazendo um arquivo de mapas de jogos que dá pra ver no browser https://noclip.website/

 

por enquanto a maioria é de jogos da Nintendo, mas ele já começou a colocar algumas coisas como por exemplo os mapas de colisão do Dark Souls 1 e 2, como eu uso uma wacom a navegação ficou meio dif[cil mas acho que em mouse deve funfar, achei bem bacana a iniciativa até pra quem está querendo estudar game design, espero que as empresas não decidam cobrar royalties ou fechar o site..

Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC might be announced next week

Amid renewed port rumors, Microsoft confirms 'exciting news' for the collection next week.
 
During a week rife with rumors of an imminent PC port, Microsoft has promised "exciting news" related to Halo: The Master Chief Collection for its Inside Xbox show next week. The show, which Microsoft hosts every month, will air on Tuesday.

There's no guarantee that the PC port will be announced then, but recent reports have made it seem likely that the game is on its way. In a recent YouTube vid, Xbox expert Brad Sams claimed the game is definitely in development, that its release is fairly imminent, and that it's possible an unveiling will occur at E3 2019.

Still, history shows that Inside Xbox isn't an outlet for major announcements: it's more of a community update presented as a talk show. Meanwhile, changes and fixes continue to be applied to the Xbox One version of The Master Chief Collection, though it seems unlikely that a whole episode would be reserved for the announcement of patch notes (but maybe?).

But it does seem certain that the game will come to PC, just as the eventual arrival of the Xbox Game Pass seems to be a dead certainty. If Phil Spencer is to be believed, it'll be a year of big announcements for Microsoft's PC interests.

Diablo has been released on GOG, with other Blizzard classics to follow

"We were bummed that these iconic games weren’t available to our players, so we‘re very happy to work with the crew at GOG.com to rectify that,” said Rob Bridenbecker, Blizzard vice president and executive producer. “This has been a long time coming and we hope our players will be excited to jump back into these classic titles.”

You'll get access to two versions if you pick it up. The first is nearly identical to the 1996 version, complete with matchmaking provided by a classic version of Battle.net. Then there's the updated version, which has Windows 10 compatibility and bug fixes.

More Blizzard games are coming, too. Expect to see both Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft 2 on GOG, with more details coming soon.

Deve ser o lançamento oficial do Project Stream, não acredito que eles vão lançar console depois de todo aquele experimento mal sucedido de consolinhos android. Mesmo assim a especulação começou depois que vazaram imagens de um controle recém patenteado pela Google.

 

 

 

 

acho que isso vai ser apenas um aparelhinho Chromecast like e você vai jogar por streaming, parece que Ubisoft, Sega (e talvez Square Enix) já embarcaram e a Google vai publicar alguns jogos exclusivos, é o que eu li de rumores. Streaming de games só funciona se você estiver perto dos servidores, isso é algo que eles têm capacidade de implementar, mas acho que só vamos ter idéia de como eles pretendem implementar esse negócio dia 19.
